Pat’s first mission in Iraq was the rescue of Pvt. Jessica Lynch, who gained much press for shooting heroically at her captors—though later it was revealed that military officials had contrived this story to falsely depict her as a hero.
According to an entry in Pat’s journal, he instantly recognized the mission as one with ulterior motives. Though Pat was clearly passionate about fighting back against the events of September 11th, it became obvious after his time spent in Iraq that he no longer supported or understood the United States military’s strategy.
